Sustainability

The first report on sustainability, which was drawn up as "Our Common Future" by the Brundtland Commission as early as 1987, wrote:

"A development is sustainable when people living today can meet their needs without depriving people living in the future of meeting their own needs."

Central to this idea are:

  • The concept of needs, that is, the basic needs of the world's poorer people.

  • The idea of limitation, that is, that the environment cannot provide unlimited resources or absorb emissions and waste.

Many years have passed since this report, which was presented at the 1992 UN summit in Rio de Janeiro, but unfortunately too little action to put our planet on the right path.

Large companies are often denigrated in the event of environmental wrongdoing, while SMEs are those that are particularly important and actually capable of producing the success of our climate goals. SMEs make up over 99% of companies in Switzerland (as of the end of 2019) and thus are a high proportion of the entire Swiss economy, which underlines the importance of this type of company for society and everyday life.
